Design Principles - Final Reflection

Final Reflection

Design principles, I would say is one of the more note worthy modules that I had the chance to be a part of this first semester. I have learned a-lot from this. My experience with Design Principles is always positive. This module is where I got to work with multiple choices of mediums, and I made sure to take advantage of this opportunity. But my favourite thing about this is the ability to be creatively free and we are never dismissed for this. Dr Charles made sure that everyone felt equally involved in the class and made sure that we never felt like what we were doing is wrong, instead showed us room for improvement. This was a very big driving factor for me as I feel like eventually I really got in touch with the direction that I wanted to take with my work, and in the end being able to achieve it.

Learning the design principles, have helped me a-lot when deciding in what kind of work that I wanted to produce for my projects, as well as with analysing that work that I do for the other modules as well. I am able to apply what I learn in this module to other things that I see on a regular basis. Our lectures don't really feel like lectures, but more of a conversation, where we are free to converse in what we think about the subject matter as well. Observing the way that our lecturer describes certain things in the most surreal way, but at the same time also makes complete sense. This has helped me with finding perspective. Therefore I understand why we need the design principles.

I found that one thing that is very important when analysing my work, is that I can never compare it with other art works, or sometimes even the other works I have done myself. Something that is separate cant be compared. This is one big take-away I have from this module. Especially when it came to our last project, it needed to be something important, that goes deep and a representation of who I am and where I come from. Even though the final result might not have been the best, but it will be one of the more memorable artworks that I have done to date, and definitely one that I am proud of. And that feeling is incomparable to the better works that I have produced. And that is because of the freedom towards creativity in this module.
