Design Principles - Project 2 - Sense of Place

Project 2 - Sense Of Place

Sense of place is how someone perceives an environment. For different people its different things. For this project, we have to produce our own art work based on this topic. It can be from our living space and or any other of our surroundings.

Research

First I did some research on the topic to see what kind of place I would do and what kind of mediums  would be best for the ideas that I have.
At first I had a hard time trying to understand how to present my artwork.

Process

After getting a good understanding about this topic I kind of already had a few ideas on  what I was going to base this on. The first idea was basing this on the view from the apartment that I live in.  I thought of this because I usually get really good sunsets here and I wanted to kind of paint the sky and sunsets are one of my favourite things in the world , though I guess it didn't have a deeper meaning to it than that.

As beautiful as the view can be, figuring that this is not the path I wanted to take with the project I looked around my home to see what else is important to me that I wanted to base thing project on.

I chose this shelf and I will explain why later in my rationale. Then I started my sketch. I only remembered to take progress pictures after I started painting. I wanted to include pictures where It represented the same things. I made a watercolour painting. I didn't want to make it look too realistic or too perfect.

Final Outcome

Rationale
For this project I wanted to produce my artwork based on something that truly means a-lot to me. It may not seem that way by looking at it. It may seem as if I painted a picture that I took. This is my favourite place. It is home away from home. It is not even a full space. It is only a part of the space, yet It feels that way to me. It may seem silly but I say this because, before I moved here, I picked out the most important bits and pieces from home and I displayed them on this shelf. This apartment wouldn't feel complete neither would it be a home to me with out these things. Each one represents something. And the pictures surrounding the frame include pictures of my family and friends of my favourite moments. And that is why this painting truly means a-lot to me.

Dr Charles Feedback
Dr Charles gave me some feedback that I could use some digital art to emphasise some parts of the artwork

Reflection
I
truly enjoyed making this project. It made me a little home sick though I am really happy with the outcome of it.
