Design Principles - Week 2 - Emphasis and Balance
Week 2 - Emphasis, Balance, Rule of third and Golden ratio
Week 2 lecture is about emphasis and balance principles. Emphasis in an artwork is used to create dominance and focus. Some examples include: dots, lines, color, shape etc. Balance on the other hand is the distribution of visual weight in a work of design. Balance can be symmetrical and asymmetrical. This week we are supposed to create art works for these two principles with the use of pencil colors, pens and markers. During the lecture they explained to us what the components are for each of these principles. She also mentioned that, in the artworks that she shares during the lecture, not only one principle will exist, but you can have a mix of different principles. Next they talked about the Golden Ratio which for designers are used to achieve harmony, structure and balance in their work. Lastly , Rule of the Thirds, which is a composition guideline to create more dynamism to a work of art.
Exercise
For this exercise we had to make art works for emphasis and balance using color pencils, pens and markers.
Emphasis
Emphasis is a way in which the aim of the artist is to get the views attention to the main focal point of the design. I did some research on this in order to get some ideas for my exercise.

I related to the following article for further research about emphasis --> https://www.thoughtco.com/definition-of-emphasis-in-art-182434

Balance
Balance refers to the visual weight distributed among the design. I wasn't sure about how to make my design look as good in a scene but instead i used an object to define the word.

Dr. Charles Feedback
I didn't get any specific feedback week.
Reflection
This week, as opposed to last week for me wasn't as difficult. I could easily grasp the meaning of the words. It took me a short period of time to come up with ideas for my exercise.
