Video and Sound Production - Final Project - Stop Motion
Final Project - Stop Motion
For this project we are supposed to create our own short stop motion
animation.
Week 1
Our task for week 1 was to do our own research by watching youtube
videos. From this we have to choose 3 videos and in the end using one as
inspiration for our final stop motion animation.
My major purpose in selecting the video was to look at the materials
used first, then consider how capable I am of constructing something
that appears tough but is ultimately attainable. When I first considered
the medium I wanted to use for this, I figured I'd want to do it on
paper, but the more researching I did, the more I realised I was leaning
toward clay. One reason for this is that clay allows you to quickly mimic and mould
the character, however I'll only realise how much time goes into it
after I get my hands dirty. One reason I thought the paper cut version
may be more complex and time consuming is that I will have to create my
character in multiple frames, and as my character becomes more
complicated, it will take me longer. Another reason I prefer clay figurines is because of how cool the end
product may appear. The first video's art style is my favourite among
the videos I've chosen (figure 1.0). It appeals to me since it is a
little strange and somewhat morbid. At the same time, I'm a big fan of
the colour palette used. I chose the last video as an option because I liked how it tells the
story and because using origami might still be a viable option for me in
my video.

Preparation of character. The medium used in making the character was by using clay, but the remaining set was made using brown and black paper with the use of wooden skewers.

After everything, preparation wise was finished, I began the shooting process. Originally the first time when I shot it, there were some challenges with the lighting, and halfway through I decided to reshoot the whole video again, because it didn't look the way I wanted to, and also by this point the clay structure of characters were in pretty bad shape as well, but I tried my best to make it look less obvious when I edited the final video.
