Task 2A - Exercises

Week 5
Key Artwork
For this Exercise we have to create an artwork that behaves like a logo to identify our own name. We can use our full name or our initials.

After the feedback, I wanted to explore a bit further, maybe by trying something a little bit different. I sketched up a new logo to see how it would turn out.

Tetris influenced the concept I was looking for with this design. I chose a gamer as an occupation so that I could be more independent with my design, and the game I chose was Tetris. As a result, I included a variety of colours in the final logo design.

Task 2B- Exercises

Week 6
Collateral

For the poster design I went back to explore a bit more. I to find the best way to represent the logo.  Once I figured out my logo and what t represented it went much smoother when it came to the poster. I wrote down all the details I wanted to include in the poster and started the design process. Most of the time that went into this exercise went into the research and trying to find he right idea. I moved my last name next to my first name instead of under it, and then I emitted parts of each letter to give it a Tetris like effect.

After the feedback I made some changes to the final poster and started working on the simulated version of the poster. Initially the idea was to use the Tetris effect design for the final poster. But with the given feedback it seemed better to use that design in the collateral.

Animated Invite
The next step was to get started on the animated invite.  I wasted to implement the theme without being too obvious about it . Mr Vinod mentioned that we should not use all the information at once, but it should be gradual.

Collateral
For the collateral we had freedom to choose whatever fit the best to the event or theme. For this I chose a T-shirt, a tote-bag and a pin. We had to design minimum of different collaterals. I made the choice to design both sides of the T-shirt and the tote bag.

Flat-lay
The last part of this task is to make a final combination of everything together in one.

Task 2B: Poster, Invite, Collateral, Flat Lay : 20 hours

FEEDBACK

Week 6
General Feedback: To do the Task 2B poster design in A2 size. To be more explorative with the design for the logos.

Specific Feedback: Both the designs for Task 2A are interesting, should explore more on the occupation.

Week 7
General Feedback: When doing the invite be careful about presenting the elements of the composition. All the information shouldn't be presented at the same time. It should have a flow to it.

Specific Feedback: The key artwork is good. Try using Helvetica in the poster. Can explore further on the design on the poster by cropping a part of the key artwork. The design of the Tetris effect would look better on the collateral.

Week 8
General Feedback:All the designs except for the animated invite should provide a PDF in the final submission.
Specific Feedback: The animated invite and the tote bag could be more expressive. There is freedom to get a little bit crazy with the design.

REFLECTION

Experience
For task 2 A, I had many ideas to go off of but i didn't quite know how to execute them properly into an occupation. I tried with the first design where i only used my initials (fg.1.3) but when it came to putting colors and developing it into the poster, It didn't work out quite right so I moved on to designing a new logo, where I used my full name. And from there I realised what I could use it for. And I was able to be more creative with this design. Once I had realised the theme of the whole task and the approach I was taking, I knew what to do with the rest of the designs.

Observation
By implementing the Tetris theme to my poster in a way that really represents the game. I was able to observe each and every letter very precisely. And carefully extracted parts of the letters to make them look matching in the overall composition. I was sure to put even the tiniest but of the smallest letters in the final emission which is on the top of the final design of the poster.

Findings
I found that it was hard for me to jump onto a design that involved a logo that I had already figured out. It takes a-lot of exploration and research to get to the final point of the design. I put a lot of thought into the kind of occupation I want to use. I wanted to choose something that had more freedom when it came to the design process, where I am also able to explore more on the modern side of designing.

This article shows us how movies implement typography of their titles based on the genre of the movie. For example using big and bold letters to represent comedic movies and using glow effect on the letters for sci-fi movies and so on.

This article talks about what are the steps you can take in order to consider different typefaces in a pairing. It mentions about the different characteristics of the typefaces to consider before choosing. Such as contrast, weight, style and decoration, scale and hierarchy, classification, structure, color and texture, extreme contrast and finally mood. All these characteristics are explained how it should be considered with given examples.
