Project 1

Week 1
On this week we were, first introduced to this topic, following the MIB then given a lecture on Netnography by Dr. Charles.  We were then guided to create groups and given a theme. We had to then, come up with a culture we were going to base our Projects on and then were assigned supervisors. Then we began to work on our Project 1.

As for our group, we worked mostly on trying to work through gathering the information and trying to come up with 5 different preliminary ideas.

Week 2
On week 2, we were shown a presentation of how our final outcome for Project one should look like. Following a lecture by Dr. Jinchi about Culture and Us, which gave us a better idea of finding which direction we wanted to go towards.

After considerations our group made the final decisions on the culture and from there began writing the rationale and the ideation processes for the 5 preliminary ideas
  • Culture - Rock and Roll Culture
  • Theme - Purpose
  • 5 preliminary ideas consisted of :
1-Fashion Line
2- Phone Cases
3- Virtual Reality
4-Temporary Tattoos
5- Miniature Band

Our group thought heavily on how each idea was going to work while considering the purpose behind each

After out consultation with Mr. Vinod, we had to think about a few more things. That included looking into the ideas a bit more, to make the idea more solid and to work more on the purpose behind each one.

1-Fashion Line
Each person in out group was given a task to do, to complete our presentation. The idea that I was working on was, to create a fashion line, that was inspired by the 70s and 80s rock and roll fashion, influenced to the society by the rockstars.

2- Phone Cases
The idea for this was to design mobile phone cases inspired by the art and design of Rock and Roll album art in the 70s and 80s

3- Virtual Reality
For this idea we thought that we would have a virtual reality experience that anyone can enjoy and feel like they are at the concert. This idea would be created as a 3D walk through from from apps, either Sketchup or Mental Canvas.

4- Temporary Tattoos
Because it’s a temporary tattoo, people of all appropriate ages can wear them without worry of the permanence. They are safe to be used as it is made from synthetic polymers. Alternatively, for those who may have irritated skin, airbrush tattoos are an option.

5- Miniature Band
The concept of this preliminary idea is to create miniatures of rock ‘n’ roll instruments and bands in the 70s that have influenced the rock ‘n’ roll history and culture today: The Beatles, Queen, The Eagles, etc so to give prominence to one of the remarkable music genres in history.

Week 3
On week 3, we showed Mr. Vinod our presentation that was almost done. The only thing was that we needed to be more precise with why our ideas would work, by finding the bridge between the idea itself and whats the purpose behind it.

After that we worked a little bit more on the rest of the presentation and then Recorded it

FEEDBACK

Week 1
General Feedback: -

Specific Feedback: -

Week 2
General Feedback: For the submissions, make sure that after you submit the project presentation recording, everyone individually uploads to their own personal youtube as well as present it on your blog by embedding it.

Specific Feedback: When you think about the ideas, try to make sure that you keep the purpose in mind.

Week 3
General Feedback: Embed the final post to our own individual blogs. Writing can help you become more creative. Make sure that your ideas are strong and solid and explain each idea purpose.

Specific Feedback:
Your ideas are good, but find a way to create that bridge between the idea and the medium itself.

REFLECTION

Experience
Since this module is solely based on working in groups, it took a while for me to get used to the whole group dynamic, We had to do group meeting up-to 2-3 times a week, which I have never had to do before, but after a while you get used to it, and find a way that is most easiest to the majority of the people in the group to work through the project

Observation
For this module it required us to closely observe the culture, of our choosing through research. We researched in to the social structures behind the rock and roll culture from the 70's to the 80's, the arts and how they dressed, and the purpose behind why they represent a specific thing.

Findings
I found this module to be quite challenging. I think that the main purpose behind this is that at first we had to make a decision so fast, like the next day after being introduced to this topic, we were told to come up with the culture we are going to base our whole module on. I don't think I was so sure, but I think our group picked a culture that was kind of close to me and some others with in our group. so it helped for us to make it though smoothly.

Figure 1.8 - Further Reading

This gives a brief explanation on what culture is. More specifically in relation to the African, Ashanti Tribe. It explains more on how they live in an extended family, in huts and various homes. And more on how they learn, share, the patterns, adaptive and symbols.
