PROCESS

1) Logo Applications

Mood Board

Design Process

The first step was to bring a few changes to the logo. I changed the typeface of the logo from Quicksand to a font called Kobe 1.1. I did this because I felt that it matched the type of the overall brad and the logo itself. The next thing I did was change the stoke size of the lines in the illustration of the skull. But not too much because I still wanted the lines to remain thinner. The purpose was so that it would look more visibly.

Figure 1.2 - Logo change - 03/06/2022

This sis the colour palette that I followed for the stationary. It still has the same colours from the original logo, with the addition of a darker colour to use in type and a very muted yellow, because I think that it goes well with the tone of red.

Business Card

I followed up by making different designs for the business card, but some of these came out looking too overwhelming for mw, so i think that the best practice was to attempt something simpler as well.

2) Collateral

Staff t-shirt

For the front of the t-shirt, I will be using the logo on the pocket side. I illustrated a skullcap flower and used that to make a post stamp design.

Wax seal stamp

I took the design from the logo itself as well as one of the skullcap flowers that was used to make the t-shirt design.

Packaging and labelling

For the packaging and labelling I wanted to use a very symmetrical botanical illustration.

Figure 1.12 - Packaging and labelling sketch - 03/06/2022

This is how it turned out after digitizing. I used the pen tool to make this design. I also wanted it to look a little bit like it was sketched out. I used the outlined design for the labels of the products and used the filled in illustration design for the packaging boxes of the products. And for these designed I included the dark blue colour becauseI felt that it better represented the vintage theme that I wanted to follow.

Tote bag

To follow the botanical idea for the tote-bag, I first listed down the names of some important herbs used in apothecary's, then i sketched them out.

FEEDBACK

Week 8
General Feedback: Independent learning week
Specific Feedback: Independent learning week

Week 9
General Feedback: We received feedback for task 2. Noted all the important points for submission on week 10. Make sure to add Envelope design, in the final stationary.
Specific Feedback: Should have at least 4 collateral. Must do more if possible. I think that the over all idea is there, but do provide with a proper positioning statement.

REFLECTION

Experience
This task overall has been up and down for me. At some points I wasn't sure I was doing it well design wise, while also making sure that the final outcome also matched the brand identity of the brand. The process for this task was pretty long, I was taking my time thinking about what kind of ideas matched with the brand, and not just go with something that I myself would typically like. So there was a challenge in between, where I was trying to figure out the difference between the two.

Observation
The main focus when it came to observation, was used in the environmental simulation of the shop. I had to make sure that the interior of the shop matched the brand. Even though at first the idea was to go with an environment that is a bit "messy" looking, in the sense of a vintage apothecary shop. But i realised that, since I was also implementing a modern twist to the vintage design of the apothecary, it would look better with an interior that is clean. Instead I used the "vintage" design for the packing and labelling, where I made the botanical sketches.

Findings
I found that I could still implement the same design in different ways, within this process. If I had managed my time a little bit better, I think that there is a-lot more that I could do with this. I found that I actually really do enjoy the design process of all this, especially the illustration phase for the packaging and labelling. It was satisfying to see the end product in the final mock simulation of the products along with everything else.

This article demonstrates how well-known brands' logos have grown and developed over time. Nike, Volkswagon, Starbucks, and Pepsi are among the brands discussed in the article. IKEA, McDonalds, Apple, Google, and Ford were among the well-known brands recognised. The report noted that new logo styles come and go, and major brands stay up with current trends to keep their brand fresh.
