Task 2: Content Generation

For this task we were first directed to come up with 3000 words whether it is online or write it ourselves. I choose to find a story online. Initially the idea was for find a story that was horror themed. I went through a few websites and found a story called go Play by Jeffery Arce. This although turned out to be a sad story, I found it descriptive and interesting.

We then formatted the text into 3 paragraphs. Then we read though each chapter found the subtext and pull quote we wanted to use in the book. After this the last step was to highlight 16 points throughout the book where we would either turn them into illustrations or photographs or even mixed media.

Visualisation

The next for me was to ideate what kind of visuals i want to use. I think for me the best way to go about this was to choose illustrations. This is because I wanted to create the kind of visuals that looked almost whimsical with details, almost like a children's book. Moreover, I think that this kind of illustrations would go really well with the story itself.

After the realisation that the sketches don't really go well with the theme that I was going for I decided to include more details.

After i finished all the sketches I started the colouring process. This process took longer than anticipated

Since it didn't look right with some of the illustrations being a little bit blurry, i went ahead and  added some noise to the illustrations on illustrator.

FEEDBACK

Week 2
General Feedback: You have to create 16 visuals for your story, make sure that the visuals created aren’t literally what the words describe.

Specific feedback: The introduction for the story line is too short, make sure that the introduction is close to equivalent to the chapters.

Week 3
General Feedback: - formatting text should appear in task 1 and task 2
- grid and text on in design (50 character and no less than 35 characters in one line)
- Come up with 3 different grid systems (3 layouts for the book)

Specific Feedback: - In the type of illustration of choosing, the details are very important. You can do the kine sketches of all the illustrations first and then do the colouring after.

Week 4
General Feedback: -
Specific Feedback: - -The submission of the e portfolio for task 2 is due week 6.

Week 5
General Feedback: - The formatting should be done by next week. The next time, you should attempt something that is different but works well with the story and your illustrations.
Specific Feedback: - The text font is a bit too harsh, you should feel more comfortable to crop and scale the images in a way that will fit the layout. The illustrations are a bit blurry, you can try to fix it by increasing the noise of the illustrations and try to maintain that throughout all the other illustrations as well.

REFLECTION

Experience
I found this task to be quite interesting. Although i would say that the type of illustrations I chose to do was quite time consuming. And since this is the first time i was using procreate to do the illustrations it was quite challenging and time consuming with some of the artworks. Especially the ones with a-lot of detail on them.

Observation
I think that most of the errors Ive made were on the artworks itself in the sense that some of them came out a bit blurry when i resized the work in accordance to my liking. Even though I had made the sketches on a art-board that was twice the size of the dimensions of my book. But I only saw this afterwards due to the unfamiliarity to procreate

Findings
I think that the only solution for the final artwork to be less blurry would be to raise the noise a bit as Mr. Vinod mentioned. Other than that, I would say thatI learned alot though this task. I am now more familiar with procreate. I know next time what mistakes I won't make.

OTHER RESOURCES

Figure 1.46 - Other Resources - 3/10/2022

This Youtube Video was very helpful to me as a beginner to this application. I followed the 5 different steps which is sketching, blocking, color, texture and lastly the details. With this method I was able to complete all the artworks
