REFLECTION
Experience
In advanced typography, I believe I was faced with numerous
challenges. These challenges were difficult for me to overcome
because it has always taken me a long time to develop a design. My
ideas may not have always been satisfactory to me. I'm always left
with the feeling that I could have done better. But, in my
experience, I can't force myself to come up with these bright
ideas. I'd like to think that with practise, I'll get closer to
that stage of my life. I'm working on getting there and learning
to appreciate the work I do, which still does involve being hard
on myself here and there for improvement purposes but not to beat
myself up so that I am afraid to fail because I have to go back
and work on that same idea.
Observations
I realised that this semester that we have much more
freedom when it comes to the work that we do. This
doesn't necessarily mean that we can do whatever we want
and every idea is good. But instead it's more like we have to
figure things out by ourselves about the work. Mr Vinod tried
his best not to give feedback so but but, he did sometimes, and
I noticed every single one of us took in the most of what they
got from those feedback sessions and made the most of it. At
least I did. In the last part, Task 3 which is Type Exploration and Application, I think I had to get out of
my head a little bit. Since I was doing experimental work
based off of a brand that already exists. And the typeface and
collaterals weren't exactly made for my demographic, So I had
to be inclusive of the brand itself and really observe who
would be my target audience in this case.
Findings
I often find it difficult to put in what I think and my ideas
and apply them to design. I have all these ideas for stuff. I
have the perfect images in my head of how it is going to turn
out. Often when it doesn't turn out them the way that I want,
thats where I am mostly disappointed, and by then I would have
to submit the results I got because I wouldn't have enough time.
I found that when working out an idea it's important to give it
a try the first time around instead of dismissing and leaving
the idea for the last minute in case the current idea doesn't
work out. I was only able to work this out successfully with one
task and that is Task 2 - Key Artwork and Collateral, in my
opinion. I was happy enough with the results and felt like it
was one of the best works I had done this semester.
